Crazy peaks as seen from the top of Smiley

I showed up at Red Dog for some annual maintenance in June and expected hiking season to be in full throttle. Quite the opposite actually. Winter grips the north for most months of the year save maybe August+September. Another curve ball was that I stayed at C+C camp which threw off all my planning

One piece of good news was that there were other hikers eager for a climb after work. I joined up with a couple guys and they showed me the way up Mt. Smiley which I didn’t know anything about. It did involve wading through some snow patches but all in all it was a decent hike in June.

The summit view was spectacular. The only peak not visible was the one we would attempt to climb the next day and fail (volcano). Although next year it goes differently, see Volcano.
