If there is only one opportunity for a Kelowna adventure, the Trestles are it. No tourism itinerary should miss it. Of course the best way to experience the best experience is by cycling. This does involve some logistical challenges (or cost, bikes can be rented at the start) but shouldn’t be a deal-breaker. It is 100% possible to have a great experience taking a short walk in the Trestles area. For a walk, make sure to start at Myra Station. From there, it is possible in a couple hours to visit (on foot) the best trestles and tunnel.

For the full experience, cycling the 12kms (one way) is the way to go. It is only a couple of hours to cycle round trip so it doesn’t matter the starting station (Myra or Ruth).

Directions:

Put Myra Station or Ruth Station KVR into a phone map app and get directions. OR, follow KLO road eastward and bend right onto McCulloch Rd. Later there will be a 4 way stop – turn right to continue on McCulloch Rd. For Ruth Station, turn right on June Springs Road (unpaved) and continue until you hit the KVR (part way the road will turn into Little White FSR). You actually have to turn left and drive along the KVR for a kilometre to reach the parking lot. For Myra station (the most popular), continue on McCulloch Rd without turning on June Springs. After heading down a steep valley over Mission Creek and back up again, the next right turn will be Myra Forest Service Road (also unpaved). There are clear signs here all the way to the official start of the Trestles. Myra Station is also the location where you can rent bicycles.

Can’t get enough cycling, trestles, and bridges? Well this stuff if all over the place as rail is ripped up for trail. Why not keep going past the trestles all the way to Penticton. You can also go the other direction south to Rock Creek. Another great section of trail is the Columbia and Western Rail trail (Grand Forks to Castlegar), Slocan Rail Trail and the Othello Tunnels (Hope).
