Iago Mountain in the Coquihalla Summits is a minor objective when compared with the surrounding peaks (Zupjok, Needle, Yak, etc…). While still popular enough in the winter, it is most discussed as a ski touring objective in the winter.
The route starts in the Zopkios Parking area and winds behind Ottomite mountain, past the turnoff to Zupjok and on to Iago Summit. From the top, there is a spectacular 360 view far across the peaks of the Coquihalla Summits including Needle, Flatiron, Markhor, Yak, Nak, Thar, Vicuna, Guanaco, Zupjok, Llama, Alpaca, and the Anderson River Group (Gamuza, Steinbok, Gemse, etc…).
With regards to ski touring, the topography makes it a bit of a slog. The first half of the trail follows a deactivated forestry road and is relatively flat (worse actually, a bit up and down). Once up on the summit, there are fantastic skiing options on the north face or down towards Great Bear Peak.
